Theories-3

Date: 15th September 2011

Vladimir Propp

By researching the most well known theories by people such as Roland Barthes and Vladimir Propp, we are able to apply them to our soap trailer.
Vladimir Propp suggested that characters took on the role of narrative functions. From studying a range of fairy tales he came up with eight different character types:

The hero, usually male, is the agent who restores the narrative equilibrium often by embarking upon a quest

The villain who usually creates the
narrative disruption.

The donor gives the hero something,
it may be an object, information or advice,
which helps in resolution of the narrative.

The helper aids the hero in the task of
restoring equilibrium.
